Overview of Build Templates and Their Uses

Several build templates are available, each designed for different types of requests. Consider the nature of the ID's request to determine which template to use:

  • Build Request
    • Most builds and updates to existing builds fall into this category.
    • Includes new builds and edits to recently completed builds (i.e., within the last 3 months).
  • Re-Use Request
    • Reserved for builds that do not require new links and no changes are needed to existing content.
    • If there are edits to an existing build (e.g., articles moved/added, topics changed), it should be set up as a build request, not a re-use.
    • Often, the original guide is linked within running courses. Starting a new build prevents confusion for students in live courses.
    • If the guide remains exactly the same, a re-use request is acceptable. The builder will review the guide, updating it to meet current library styles and standards.
  • Something's Broken
    • Used for updates to live guides, often from Curriculum Intake or as a result of a Something’s Broken task.
    • Includes urgent requests like replacing an article link, removing an article, or correcting a spelling error.
    • Used with content deletion replacements and research requests. Note: For instructions on processing these requests, which differ from the standard procedures for setting up new requests, please refer to the section titled "Managing Content Deletion, Replacements, and Research Requests."
    • Typically minor updates/changes to guides, often in running courses; links remain the same.
    • Keep in mind that updates to live guides impact all courses where the guide is linked, so consider if changes affect all students.
    • May involve research to find suitable replacements for existing content that may be outdated, incorrect, or missing.
