Putting the library in your classroom

Studies have shown that library anxiety is a real issue for some students, and an online library can be overwhelming even if you don't have library anxiety. We want to make your students' experiences with the library as successful (and anxiety-free) as possible and offer some resources and services to help.

Classroom instruction

Library instruction can be incorporated into nearly all courses with a research assignment, and we can tailor the instruction to meet your course needs. For example, if your course has a research assignment, we can offer your students discipline- and topic-specific research recommendations. We can also provide more general overviews of the library and its services.

We understand that research can be overwhelming; sometimes, knowing where to start can seem daunting. Currently, webinars are limited to doctoral students and faculty as they cover topics applicable to doctoral research.

Keeping current with your research

We know that staying current with the research in your field can be difficult and time-consuming. We offer a handful of tools that can help you stay on top of your field and find content to share in your classroom.

Search alerts

Search alerts notify you via email when there are new articles that match your search query. Many of our databases in the library offer a search alert service, and options for saving a search will usually appear on the results page after you enter the initial search parameters. Here are the steps for creating a search alert in EBSCOhost and ProQuest, two of our more popular databases.

Journal alerts

Journal alerts notify you via email when new issues of a journal have been added to the library. We’ve included the steps to create journal alerts in EBSCOhost, ProQuest, and Sage Journals, but many of our databases offer this service. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about how to set up an alert in a database that isn't listed.

Ask Us!, the library's research and reference service, is available seven days a week to students, faculty, alumni, and university staff. Our team usually responds within a few hours via email and can assist with selecting databases, crafting search strategies, and discovering resources.

Doctoral appointments

We understand doctoral research can be intense and go deeper than the average university user. To help our students, we offer one-on-one appointments where doctoral students can schedule a Microsoft Teams meeting with a librarian to discuss approaches to researching their specific thesis topic.
