Research Appointments

Please note that appointments are currently only available to doctoral students.

The library's research appointments are an excellent way to connect with a real, live librarian one-on-one. If you're stuck and need help or find the library overwhelming and don't know where to start, a librarian can help.

But help with what exactly? Here are some examples of what we can do at your appointment:

  • Find the resources you need to finish your assignment
  • Give you search strategies to research your literature review better
  • Help you pick the correct databases for your research
  • Provide tips on how to use some of our databases more efficiently

There's no question too great or small; we're here to help you overcome any research stumbling blocks you encounter. So, go ahead and book your appointment today!

Scope of Service

The following goes beyond the scope of our service. We cannot:

  • help with alignment - they need to work with their URR and Chair
  • analyze data - we can help them find datasets, but they must interpret and do the data analysis themselves
  • edit any part of their dissertation
  • if you recognize before or during an appointment that a student is requesting help with something beyond our scope, you can reset their expectations by reminding them of what the appointment service offers and provide other services, contacts, or resources that may be able to assist instead, if applicable

Policies

  • If you are ten or more minutes late, the library reserves the right to cancel your appointment.
  • You must be at a computer with internet access and not operating a motor vehicle during your appointment.
  • If you experience technical difficulties, please get in touch with your librarian directly. Their contact information will be listed on your confirmation email upon booking your appointment.
  • Please respond promptly to follow-up questions or correspondence to ensure our meeting time is productive. If the information you provide is insufficient to determine your need, we may need to reschedule your appointment.
  • If your librarian cannot attend the appointment, we will notify you by email and schedule a new appointment with you as soon as possible.
  • If you accumulate three (3) no-shows or cancellations in a row, the library reserves the right to intervene and restrict the number of appointments you may make or revoke the use of this service. This policy helps ensure fair access for all University of Phoenix students.
  • Use of this service is contingent on compliance with its guidelines and procedures. We reserve the right to revoke the use of this service from anyone violating appointment guidelines or exhibiting disrespect for the library or its staff. The library will report severe violations of these guidelines or expectations to the appropriate institutional disciplinary body.
