Using APA format in your writing ensures you give proper credit to your sources, avoid plagiarism, and communicate your ideas clearly and professionally. Although getting started with APA can feel overwhelming, the University Library’s APA Toolkit makes learning the basics easier. The toolkit includes citation tools, formatting guidance, and even interactive online escape rooms to help you practice and develop your skills. It’s a great resource for building confidence!
Writing papers can already be painful. Add formatting citations in APA to that equation, and for some, it becomes agonizing, especially if you are new to APA formatting. The library staff has developed two online escape rooms that help make learning about APA style fun (or as close to fun as possible). Escape from PS648! and its follow-up Escape From 648 Part II challenge you to escape a fungus that turns people into zombies by answering some APA questions.
The library staff aren't experts in APA, but they have created an APA Toolkit to help you understand and format citations in APA format. You'll get a refresher on APA, recommended tools and resources, various citation generators, and, of course, the escape rooms.
Are formatting APA citations causing you to grind your teeth? Save your enamel and check out the updated Reference & Citation Generator in the Center for Writing Excellence. The citation generator is a tool to help you learn how to correctly cite sources while building your citations. Simply select your resource type and fill in the fields. The citation generator will then create references and citations. Keep in mind that not all resources are listed, but you can check out the APA Style website for other reference examples. Also, note that the citation generator will not fix mistakes you may enter, including spelling errors, incorrect dates or names, or omissions.
