As we've mentioned in this week's previous blog posts, the theme for this year's National Library Week is "There's More to the Story." Today, April 26th, is National Library Outreach Day, and the goal of this blog is to entice you into the library (preferably our library, but any library is good, too).
Today, most libraries offer more than books. You're reading this blog, which means you are sooo close to all the other great (and varied) resources in the University of Phoenix Library. But if you find yourself hesitating to dig into the library and instead are asking questions like, What is the value of the library, and why should I visit it?, we can help you with that.
As a proud library nerd, I'm happy to talk on end about this topic, but for the sake of time (and to show my appreciation for the fact that you're still reading this blog), I'll just list my top 10 reasons why you should visit the University of Phoenix Library:
- 🛎️ We're at your service! Ask Us anything. If you get lost, hit the Ask Us button, and we'll guide you through it.
- 🎬 Watch and learn. Ken Burns's Jazz, RBG, John Lewis: Good Trouble, and so much more through our Multimedia resources.
- 📰 Catch up on the news. You don't need a subscription. Use Publications where you can search for newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post, and Chicago Tribune.
- 📈 It's all about the numbers. Did you know for 24% of librarians casual Friday means leaving the top 2 buttons of their cardigan unbuttoned? Just kidding. But we have a great guide, Find Statistical Data, for real data and statistics information.
- 📚 You get an ebook! And you get an ebook! Everybody gets an ebook! A good place to get them? Ebook Central.
- 💼 Just in case. Get a healthy dose of the real world through Case Studies.
- 🛠️ A tool for every job. All wrapped up with a bow and presented to you: Toolkits that offer tutorials, videos, and guides. My favorite, you ask? The APA Toolkit – come for the zombie escape room, stay for the helpful resources.
- 🧐 Take a page from Elizabeth Barrett Browning. How do I find a company report? How do I find or create a SWOT analysis? How do I evaluate sources? These answers and more are in, you guessed it, our How do I guides.
- ✍️ Reality blog. Who needs Keeping Up With the Kardashians when you have Keeping Up With the Librarians? I can't promise our blog will have ugly crying or show how to cut a cucumber in the most awkward way possible, but I can promise that if you subscribe to it, you will get topical and helpful information from one of our great library writers.
- 🎉 I'll keep the last reason brief: Libraries are fun. And, like YOU, librarians are cool. 😎
