READ Scale for LRR Research and Web Permissions: Permissions

Level 1

READ SCALE EXAMPLES
  • Answers that require the least amount of effort
  • Basic knowledge of Asana
  • Procedural questions
  • No analysis of the requested site or content

Level 2

READ SCALE EXAMPLES
  • Website/content is found in the Permissions Database; no evaluation of the website TOU is needed
  • No contact with website required
  • Form is complete and no contact with requester is needed

Level 3

READ SCALE EXAMPLES
  • Website has fairly straightforward copyright language, minimal research required
  • Terms of Use are easily found and provide clear language to determine copyright restrictions
  • Website may need to be contacted for permission
  • Contact information is relatively easy to find on the website and response is received in a timely manner
  • Form is incomplete and some coaching is required before the copyright status can be evaluated

Level 4

READ SCALE EXAMPLES
  • Website has complex, contradictory, or limited TOU
  • Request requires effort to research ownership or origin
  • Website does not list linking information or has contradictory language, must be contacted for permission
  • Form includes a document without a website or a site that is unavailable
  • Additional clarification or information is needed from the requester
  • Form includes multiple URLs that must be reviewed
  • Multiple fields in the form are incomplete and/or extensive coaching is required on the process

Level 5

READ SCALE EXAMPLES
  • Complexity of request requires 2+ librarians to review
  • Request requires back-and-forth with site owner and/or copyright holder
  • Request results in significant additional library research to find similar content
  • Significant clarification or discussion with the requester is needed to complete the request

Level 6

READ SCALE EXAMPLES
  • The complexity of the request or website require consultation of the UOPX legal department
