Keeping Up With the Librarians

Staff Spotlight: Traci Avet

Well, it's September, folks, and even though this isn't the first September post on our blog this year, it is my first post this month, so I'd like to welcome you all to pumpkin spice season officially!

I'm bringing back the staff spotlight to introduce you to our newest team member, Traci Avet! Traci brings years of experience to our team, and we're thrilled to have her on board. Let's get to know her!

The Facts

Traci AvetName: Traci Avet
Title: Library Operations Specialist
Bio: I've worked in libraries for over 20 years in schools, the public, hospitals, vendors, and higher education settings. My favorite, though, is higher education - and I'm always happy to help.

The Questions

  1. What is your favorite book? I have several, but one of my longest-standing favorites is Watership Down. It's like an epic war movie - powerful, serious - but with rabbits.
  2. Any genres you won't read? Outside of non-fiction mountaineering, basically anything to do with sports. (Sorry, Kristina!)
  3. What is your favorite hobby? It doesn't feel like a hobby, but I would have to say reading.
  4. What activity do you find incredibly boring? Waiting in any kind of lobby for an appointment, medical or otherwise. Although, for some reason, I do tend towards flipping through even the most uninteresting magazines over looking at my phone, so I have only myself to blame.
  5. What sound or noise do you love? My cat's vocal purr when he's waiting on his evening treat; it is the coolest, sweetest sound.
  6. What sound or noise do you hate? A loud doorbell.
  7. Have you ever "shh" -ed anyone in a library before? Yes, unfortunately! I worked in public libraries for several years, and kids playing computer games alongside their friends would sometimes get overly enthusiastic. They were wearing headsets, but you'd get the same occasional shouts you get when people watch the Super Bowl.
  8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? If I ever left libraries, I think I'd be drawn to working with the elderly in some non-medical capacity. Other interests would be learning carpentry or wildlife rehabilitation; I know nothing about either but would truly love to.
  9. What profession would you not like to do? I don't think I'd enjoy being a salesperson.
  10. If the Library of Alexandria exists, what's the first thing you would read from there? I would first want to read the librarians' workflow and process notes.
